Summer Inclusion Course

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering a scholarship for a 3-hour Summer Graduate course entitled “Introduction to Inclusive Practices for Young Children with Disabilities.” This special course is designed specifically for individuals in the child care system who provide oversight and/or training and technical assistance to child care programs in South Carolina (e.g., licensing staff, ABC quality staff, certified trainers and TAPs with SC CCCCD). Students participating in this experience will earn 3 graduate credit hours upon successful completion of course requirements. This course will introduce students to the concept of inclusion in early childhood settings and will provide research-supported strategies that support children with special needs in general education settings.

Course Goals:
1. To provide awareness of supports and services available for young children with disabilities and their families.
2. To introduce a definition for early childhood inclusion and policies that support inclusion in early childhood settings.
3. To introduce recommended strategies and practices in early intervention and early childhood special education.

With the needs of working professionals in mind, the course will be offered in a hybrid format including online learning modules which can be completed in the comfort of your home as well as weekly face-to-face meetings at the Child Development Research Center,  1530 Wheat Street - Room 227, Columbia, SC 29208 to occur on Fridays from 9:30-3:30. During each face-to-face meeting students will be provided opportunities to learn from and interact with national experts in the field of early childhood special education.

Dates: May 29, 2017-June 23, 2017
Face-to-face Meeting dates: 6/3; 6/09; 6/16; and 6/23

The scholarship, funded by the SC DSS Division of Early Care and Education, will cover the cost of tuition for the course. Scholarship applications are due on April 14, 2017. Applicants will be notified, via email, of acceptance no later than May 1, 2017. We have a limited number of scholarships available, please apply early to secure your seat in the course. Preference will be given to individuals working in the child care system who provide oversight and/or training and technical assistance to child care providers in South Carolina.
