2021 Summer Inclusion Course

The South Carolina Child Care Inclusion Collaborative is pleased to announce that we will be offering a scholarship for a 3-hour Summer Graduate course entitled “Introduction to Inclusive Practices for Young Children with Disabilities.” This special course is designed specifically for individuals in the early care and education system who provide oversight and/or training and technical assistance to child care programs in South Carolina (e.g., licensing staff, ABC quality staff, certified trainers and TAPs with SC Endeavors).

Students participating in this experience will earn 3 graduate credit hours upon successful completion of course requirements. This course will introduce students to the concept of inclusion in early childhood settings and will provide research-supported strategies that support children with disabilities/developmental delays in general education settings.


Course Goals:
1. To provide awareness of supports and services available for young children with disabilities and their families.
2. To introduce a definition for early childhood inclusion and policies that support inclusion in early childhood settings.
3. To introduce recommended strategies and practices in early intervention and early childhood special education

With the needs of working professionals in mind, this 4-week course will be offered in a virtual format including online learning modules as well as weekly virtual class meetings through Zoom. During each virtual meeting students will be provided opportunities to learn from and interact with national experts in the field of early childhood special education.


Course dates: July 19-August 13, 2021


Virtual Meeting dates: July 23 (9:00-3:00); July 30 (9:00-3:00); August 5 (1:00-3:00); August 6 (1:00-3:00); August 13 (9:00-3:00)


The scholarship, funded by the SC DSS Division of Early Care and Education, will cover the cost of tuition for the course.
